History
Across Rajpath in Central Delhi at the eastern end is laid a huge archway that is made of stone and is a pride that resembles victory. The monument is raised to a height of 42 meters and is formerly known as India Gate. On original basis, the place was also known by the name of All India War Memorial on the basis of which the foundation of this prestigious monument is laid. This monument was built under the supervision and control of Duke of Connaught during the year 1921 and the building was dedicated to Lord Viceroy at the time of 1931 namely, Lord Irwin.

It can clearly be collected from India gate details that designing of this monument was conducted under supervision of Sir Edwin Lutyens. The pillar along with whole monument representing the gate of India is built over the stone platform including Red Bharatpur stone along with the cornice elements also available. If you have a look at the monument, you will find that INDIA in bold letters is encrypted on either ends of the monument. You will also find the signs of XIX along with MCM. Throughout the walls of India Gate right from top to bottom are scripted the names of all those soldiers who have sacrificed their lives during the World War 1 as well as those of other names who have given their lives in Afghan war. It is because of this reason that the place is very much favored and having a look at it, you also get to acknowledge amongst yourself the feeling of patriotism.

It has been declared from history of india gate that the place is very much known for its patriotic feeling. There is a story that also moves along with India Gate which says that the place is also considered as tomb to all those unknown soldiers who have given their lives fighting for the pride of their country. It is for those unknown soldiers that a flame is also seen ignited on India gate which is also known as “Amar Jawan Jyoti” and this flame is found just beneath the gate. It has been since 1971 since when the flame has been ignited. At the same place you will also find a pedestal which comprises a rifle along with soldiers cap as a tribute to all those soldiers. The place is very much attractive and remains mostly quite.
